So I dropped my daughter and assorted neighbor kids off at school, my wife at her knee therapy, and took myself to the Dripping Springs library to apply for my very own library card! Both Hallie and Renee' have used the library forever but I had never been there beyond picking Hallie up. One of the things I've looked forward to in my retirement is returning to my "old" habit of spending a few hours wandering around looking at magazines and browsing through random books with no specific subject in mind. My time this morning didnt allow for that but I'm headed back this afternoon! We will see how it goes!

Something about Ash Wednesday
For more than half my years I have had ashes placed on my forehead on Ash Wednesday as a reminder of my mortality. As they are being imposed there is a sensation of very fine smoothness and the pressure of the persons finger making the sign of the cross. But there is also a roughness to the ashes. A grittiness and that is what is on my mind. It seems that long after the ashes have been rubbed or washed away that grittiness stays.
