Rain in The Big Bend!

My wife and I just had a first in the Big Bend! We went there in an RV!! After 45 years of hiking throughout the area and sleeping under the stars we RV'd! And were treated to the sound of rain on the roof, the smell of coffee brewing at the throw of a switch, and walking only a few steps to the bathroom without any concern for stepping on a scorpion or rattlesnake! Not that we would trade a single one of our previous trips for our new accommodations! They are such precious memories. I expect we will be taking along cots and still spending nights lying in bed gazing up at the stars but that coffee without having to pump up the camp stove and the ice cream we had from our freezer one night are sure nice!

So its August!

and the second day of August at that! In 1992 I spent my birthday alone in the Big Bend. I was happy to be there and free to enjoy the time. There was a  fantastic ever changing sky full of clouds and I drove over the park taking pictures of the sky. I gave myself the boundaries of making the image mostly the sky but requiring at least a small bit of the earth in every shot. When I got to Burro Mesa ( above) the clouds conspired to place a micro-burst of rain right on its top. I can still smell it!
