A Tumultous Year

Yes 2018 has had more than its share of downs, on both a personal level and for the world as a whole. But there has always been the promise, delivered if I looked, of hope and the opportunity to see the real beauty that is there along side the despair.
So I'll keep praying, and living, and looking as long as I'm allowed- from my little spot on this earth. You do the same!

May You Know

God's Peace,
Given us in the birth of the Christ Child- and again and again and again each day!

First Time

I didn't make it to pick out our Christmas tree. Wheelchairs and muddy ground just don't mix! ( I guess I could have filed a lawsuit under the ADA act, but I'm a Texan, not a californian!)  Anyway wife and daughter brought home a great one, tied to the top of my daugter's car-- missed that too! And tonight when they go to the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar I'll be staying at home as well! But that's by choice, crowds are way too big and besides Renee' has been doing her Christmas baking and there will be no one to stop me from eating ALL I WANT!

Soccer Cleats

Several years ago Hallie was going through multiple pairs of soccer cleats a season- just totally wearing them out! She brought up a brand that had a TOTAL warranty, guaranteed for her life! They were very expensive- over $300, but it seemed better math to me and they were very comfortable for her. So we bought them.
She brought them inside ( more on that in a minute) the other night to show us where the soles were splitting at the cleats and let us know they would need to be replaced soon. Great! two years use, that's a big improvement over the others and now you get a new pair!  Uh Dad they don't make them anymore!
So it goes!
When I wheeled into the kitchen the next morning there was a terrible stench, like twenty tom cats had peeded all over the room! She had left the shoes inside and the odor coming from them should have been banned under the Geneva Convention. Little girls may be sugar and spice but not their feet-- at least if they are soccer players!

Electro-Voice

This is Pat, the son of "Son"  Thomas. I met him at the Highway 61 Blues Museum in Leland, Mississippi. And that has nothing to do with Electro-Voice, the brand of the first stereo speakers I ever bought. Since I'm basically living in a recliner in our living room while my leg heals and as its now Advent, with the season upon us for Christmas music, I asked Renee' to put some on. She pointed out that we had removed the main speakers in advance of having new carpet installed. All that were left in place were the nearly 50 year old bookshelf Electro- Voices, mounted about 10 feet off the floor. Certain that I'd be disappointed I went ahead and to my amazement they sounded great! Their clarity, range, and even bass response were excellent. Even though they are long gone ,my thanks to the Warehouse Sound Co in San Luis Obispo for recommending them. My Marantz 1120 still powers the whole set up, recommended and bought from them as well!
